Our Mission

Our Mission is to provide the highest quality veterinary care for our patients and clients.

We provide this service with excellence in every aspect of animal care by being honest, friendly, dependable and compassionate.

We strive to become part of your extended pet family and promise to treat each patient as if they were one of our very own.

Welcome to the Pack!

Thank you for trusting us to care for your companions veterinary needs. We are a full service mixed animal practice committed to providing the highest quality veterinary care. We have two facilities; our main hospital, Valley Veterinary Hospital, resides in Ellensburg. Our sister clinic, Cascade East Animal Clinic in Cle Elum, allows for one doctor to see patients Monday through Friday for appointments and surgeries.

We provide a wide variety of services, diagnostics, and treatments for large and small animals.

We offer a range of diagnostics including new digital radiography and digital dental radiography, dental prophylaxis capabilities, ultrasound, endoscopy, laser therapy, equine dentistry, and lameness exams.

We offer an in-house laboratory to provide same-day blood work and microscopic results. We have a large pharmacy to ensure our patients have quick access to medications as well as a competitive on-line pharmacy for your convenience.

Our large surgical suite is set up for spays, neuters, specific orthopedic procedures, and emergencies that may arise. Most of our equine and large animal clients utilize our safe and efficient, haul-in facility but we do make farm call visits when needed.

Our veterinary team is comprised of five full-time and two part-time doctors.

Our veterinarians, Dr. Mark Hayden, Dr. Ben Rizor, Dr. Joan Fleming, Dr. Marjory Coates and Dr. Emily Walzer provide mixed animal medicine. Dr. Liz Ritzenthaler and Dr. Daylin Taylor who both are part time veterinarians, focus on small animal medicine. We also have nine licensed veterinary nurses and seven veterinary assistants on staff that enhance our patients' care.

Prescription Refill Requests:

For all prescription requests we ask that you call the clinic so that our team can quickly verify your refill status, schedule an appointment as needed or process your refill within 24 hours. We can also help set you up on our online pharmacy.

Please note that it may take longer for DEA controlled substances such as Tramadol or Phenobarbital; for these we request a minimum of 2 full business days notification because of the regulated handling required for these medications.

Payment is due at the time of service.

Currently we have a limited number of new client appointments available, we require a reservation fee to hold this first appointment. This fee is refundable with at least 24 hour cancellation notice. If your appointment is held the reservation fee will apply to your charges on the day of your appointment.

We accept checks, all major credit cards as well as Care Credit. We promote pet insurance as a way to prepare for veterinary costs. We do not sell pet insurance, however, we recommend Trupanion, Nationwide and ASPCA plans based on our research. Talk to a staff member today about these options.

Our Story

A lifetime dream of working at a country practice came to fulfillment when Dr Hayden accepted a position here in 1999 .  After being offered an opportunity to purchase the practice in 2003, he and his wife set out to serve the (then) half dozen employees and the community, and share in pet owners’ love of God’s creatures by serving their medical needs. Within a couple years they were able to purchase a new location for our sister clinic, Cascade East Animal Clinic, in Cle Elum.  It was an old house overgrown with trees, and they transformed it into a humble, but professional, full time veterinary office.

As the demand for veterinary care grew in Ellensburg, the 1960s Valley Vet building was quickly outgrown, and a new hospital was completed adjacent to it in 2015. The old building was remodeled into a full service boarding facility which now employs at least 6 team members.

Our six doctors have years of commitment to our practice. Each of them has developed special practice interests, or “niches”, many of which you can read in their bios on this website.  We have kept our two locations joined as one unit, with doctors and staff that work between both facilities. Through the years, we have grown to try to keep up with the needs of this wonderful community in Kittitas county.  Our mission remains the same; to provide high quality veterinary care for both large and small animals, to humbly serve our clients, and to uphold our core values that our team has become unified around.  We strive to maintain a “family practice”  atmosphere, maintaining long term relationships with our clients. The future of this practice is bright. Our team fosters a positive practice culture, and our goal is to remain a family owned practice that continues to grow in our services, improve our level of care, and provide community outreach such as educational events and service projects.
